Jones County’s one-week pardon for its shelter animals earlier this year has made a continuing impact on pet adoptions.

Because of the success of that event, Animal Control Director Jennifer Giddens was invited to be a part of the animal shelter pardon process for Manatee County, Fla., that took place April 23.

Giddens said she was invited by Shane and Janet Smith of Byron, the founders of Paws for Hope and Faith. The Smiths were in Jones County the week of Feb. 11, and all 44 animals that came through the facility were found homes. But that has turned out to be only the beginning of the story.

“The dogs went everywhere, all over the United States and one went to Canada,” she said.
