Jana Dawson Bembry was indicted Dec. 3, 2012, on charges of VGCSA possession methamphetamine with intent to distribute, VGCSA possession alprazolam, and theft by receiving stolen property firearm.
Bembry pled guilty to the offenses June 6 and received a total of 10 years with 12 months to serve in the Jones County Law Enforcement Center. The remainder of her sentence may be served on probation.
A report of the Dec. 10, 2011, arrest by Deputy William Pruitt states that he observed a car that appeared to be stopped in the roadway. He said as he approached the vehicle it started to pull away at a slow speed.
The deputy said he watched the car cross the double yellow line a couple of times and decided to make a traffic stop to check the condition of the driver. Shawn Phillips was driving the car and told Pruitt that he and his passenger, Bembry, were trying to find a deer with his flashlight.
