In a summertime take on the famed Pinewood Derby, the Cub Scouts of Gray’s Pack 119 gathered last Saturday at the pool at The Pines to hold their annual Raingutter Regatta.

The boys and their parents made boats from plastic water bottles, shishkabob scewers and index cards that they raced in a two-lane blow-up version of raingutters. The only power was lung power supplied by the boys through straws strategically aimed at the sails.

Some boats skimmed quickly down the lanes, some capsized and sank, and others went in circles, but all had a good time.

There was also plenty of swimming and a hot dog cookout to complete the day’s fun.
