Gray Downtown Development Authority members continue their effort to bring a new focus to the city through economic development.

Jones County planning officer Tim Pitrowski attended the Aug. 12 meeting to talk about ways to ensure the character of the area around the courthouse is maintained and guided toward the city’s master plan.

The DDA is aware that, without some kind of protection in place, a company could build most anything in the middle of downtown Gray, and they could do little to stop it.

When the master plan is completed, Gray will have a downtown square consisting of a combination of government and professional offices, restaurants, and retail businesses on the lower level with some residential lofts on the second level.

The question facing the DDA, chaired by Sherri Rollins, is where to start.
