Three Macon television stations and its newspaper had reporters and video cameras in the aisles of the Charlotte Wilson Conference Room last week waiting for the Jones County Board of Commissioners to meet.

The board had three scheduled meetings, but what took place was business as usual, with no fireworks in sight.

The first Aug. 13 meeting was a called meeting. Chairman Preston Hawkins opened the meeting and then turned it over to Commissioner Jonathan Pitts. The commissioner’s first motion was to advertise the position of human resource director in the newspaper.

The motion was approved unanimously and without any comment from the other commissioners.

The second motion was a budget matter. Pitts made the motion that all departments be required to obtain permission from the assistant county administrator or the chief finance officer during the month of August for any spending over $500.
