The Lady Hounds went 3-2 last week, beating West Laurens in the home opener 6-1 on Wednesday and splitting four games in the Oconee County Tournament over the weekend, suffering their first two losses of the season.

They then downed Union Grove 5-3 on the road Monday to start the new week, improving to 10-2 for the season.

Jones County was to open its region schedule with a game at Warner Robins on Tuesday evening, and it hosts Houston County in another region matchup at 5:55 p.m. on Thursday. The Lady Hounds will recognize former softball coaches and players before Thursday’s game.

In the home opener last Wednesday, the Lady Hounds didn’t waste much time scoring in the first inning. Jazmine Washington led off with a bunt single, was advanced to second by Bree Comer, and went to third and scored on wild pitches.

West Laurens tied the game in the third with a double, sacrifice bunt and RBI groundout. The Lady Hounds promptly recaptured the lead in the bottom of the inning. Washington led off with another bunt single, Comer advanced her to second on a single to left. Kylie Bass singled in Washington, and Comer and Bass advanced to second and third when West Lauren’s right fielder tried throwing Washington out at the plate. Comer scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Kaitlin Stokes, and Bass scored on a Mackenzie Barnes double to right.
