The Houston County Lady Bears turned the tables on Jones County last week, downing the Lady Hounds twice to win the Region 2-AAAAA crown.

Last year Houston County beat Jones County twice in the regular season, but the young Lady Hounds upset the Lady Bears in the region final four to capture second place and a No. 2 seed for the state playoffs.

This year, Jones County defeated Houston County twice during the regular season, both one-run victories, to earn the right to host the region final four.

But this time, the Lady Bears pulled off the reversal, beating defending champion Greenbrier in the opening game, then downing Jones County twice to claim the region title and a No. 1 seed for the state playoffs.

The Lady Hounds blanked Evans 5-0 to open the double-elimination tournament last Wednesday, with junior lefty Kylie Bass striking out nine in the one-hit shutout.

Houston County then shocked Greenbrier with a 12-5 victory in the second game. After Greenbrier bounced back to down Evans 12-4 in the losers’ bracket, Houston County blanked Jones County 3-0 in the night’s final game.
