JONES COUNTY: George Barret Mahoney, 69, returned home on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013. The memorial service was held at the Monroe County Memorial Chapel in Forsyth at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 18. A celebration of George’s life was held after the memorial service at 147 W. Johnston St. in Forsyth.

George was a 1970 graduate of Memphis State University, where he played football. He had a very fulfilling life and lived every day to its fullest. He was an amateur boxer and Vietnam veteran who enjoyed the outdoors, especially coyote hunting. He was a very successful entrepreneur, spending multiple decades as the owner of Southern Process Equipment.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George F. Mahoney and Clara P. Neal, and his brother, William N. Mahoney. Survivors include his life companion, Jerie B. Williams; nephew, Mark Mahoney (Kristal); stepdaughters, Cindy Durham, Tracie Souther (Neil) and Terri Duncan (Jarrad); as well as great-nieces and great-nephews, Chandler Mahoney, Pyper Mahoney and Felicity Mahoney. Grandchildren include Joshua Boyd, Emily Compere and Coleman Duncan.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to the University of Memphis Tiger Scholarship Fund, 119 Athletic Office Building, Memphis, TN 38152.
