DDA Chairman Sherri Rollins opened the Oct. 15 meeting with a recap of recent events. The Board of Education had asked Gray City Council to waive its water and sewer tap fee for the construction of the new elementary school that is being built on Highway 18 East.
The first figure given to the school system was more than $90,000, and after several negotiations, the final charge was $15,000 for both taps.
“In return, the city will get the first option to buy the bus lot property when it becomes available,” Rollins said.
The chairman explained that Superintendent William Mathews made it clear that the Board of Education members cannot make that commitment for future boards, but the negotiation agreement was put on record.
