The Jones County Board of Commissioners started their first Tuesday meeting with three consecutive committee meetings leading into the main event.

The Nov. 5 wellness committee meeting started at 3 p.m. and was led by Recreation Director Matt Goins. He told committee members that he attended a wellness workshop recently and picked up another $3,000 grant for the county’s wellness center, which gives the county a total of $8,000 to work with to set up a workout room.

The wellness center will be located in the former cafeteria at the Government Center.

The group decided that every county department would be represented on the committee.

Goins was appointed to be committee chairman, Angie Frasier vice chairman, and Connie Mize will be secretary.

Goins said he is meeting with Bibb Security this week about security for the room. He is looking at keypad access and video surveillance to allow 24-hour access.
