A second-grade class at Turner Woods Elementary won a pizza party for themselves and a $1,000 check for their school for winning a Goodwill donation contest.

The students in Florence Priester’s class were excited about the party, and TWE principal Dr. Gail Wincey was excited about how the $1,000 would benefit the school.

Priester took no credit for the win and said the students took the initiative after receiving a brief explanation of the contest.

“I told them how they would be helping families who did not have a lot of clothes or toys and asked them to look around their homes during the weekend and see if there was anything they would like to give someone else,” she recalled.

The teacher said some of the some of the students came back after the weekend and said they had donated a lot.

“They were really into it, and I am thrilled to have such giving, generous students and families in my class this year,” she added.
