Jones County’s Teacher of the Year was announced last week, and the winner is a JCHS math teacher.

Angela Jones teaches math to grades 10-12 and was named Jones County’s 2014 Teacher of the Year Nov. 7. She will now go on to compete for Teacher of the Year at the state level in December.

Jones was chosen for the honor of representing Jones County from a select group consisting of one representative of each school in the Jones County system. Those teachers are Melissa Middlebrooks, Dames Ferry Elementary School; Erin Yawn, Gray Elementary School; Lauren Sheffield, Turner Woods Elementary School; Janet Schraufnagel, Wells Elementary School; Michael Hataway, Clifton Ridge Middle School; Melinda Kitchens, Gray Station Middle School; and Traci Woods, Jones County High School Ninth Grade Campus.

Jones was obviously surprised when her name was called as the winner.

“I was honored to be representing the high school, but to represent Jones County is unbelievable,” she stated.
