The Jones County Youth Football League held its annual Gray Bowl last weekend, and the 11-12 boys from Jones County won the championship.

Jones County’s 5-6, 7-8 and 9-10 all-star teams all finished second in their age groups.

Jones County’s 11-12 boys went down to Waycross and played Nov. 9 in a tune-up tournament before the Gray Bowl and won both games, downing Glynn County 14-0 and then beating Effingham County 8-6 for the championship.

“Semaj Ingram and Maleek Wooten carried the load in the first game. They are both halfbacks on the team,” coach Jamey Huckeba said. “Fullback Antwann Clowers blocked well and had some good runs in key situations. The last game was very exciting. Quarterback Jake Lanford came up with a crucial first down on a bootleg pass. He saw the receiver was covered and scrambled around the end getting just enough yardage.”

Last weekend in the Gray Bowl, the 11-12 boys ran past Monroe County 40-6 and Putnam County 30-12 to win the championship. Wooten had two kickoff returns for touchdowns, and both he and Ingram had several long runs.
