A tip from a concerned citizen resulted in the arrest of a Jones County man for charges of theft.

A report by Jones County Sheriff Investigator Kenny Allen states that Kenneth Calvin Reitz was arrested Nov. 21 and charged with theft by receiving stolen property and driving while his license was suspended or revoked.

Allen said he actually got a phone call from Sgt. Paul Hathaway, who was not on duty but had been contacted by a concerned citizen and told that a suspicious person was trying to sell two new Husqvarna chain saws for $200 each.

The citizen gave the officer a phone number and first name of Ken for the suspect.

Allen said he called the number and told him he was interested in the chain saws. They set up a time and place to meet, and Ken told the officer that he would be riding a motorcycle. Allen and Investigator Gerry Nelson arrived at the designated meeting place on Shurling Drive. Nelson waited in the front, and Allen was in back of the store.

“When Investigator Nelson informed me over the radio that the subject was there, I pulled from behind of the store, blocking in the motorcycle,” Allen said.
