The Jones County wrestling team struggled a bit last week, winning two of three matches, so coach Jacob Crook has decided to cut back on the schedule a bit in hopes his team will be fresh for the area and state duels coming up in January.

“We were really sluggish against Upson-Lee and Monticello last week,” he said Monday. “I think the guys have gotten a little worn down, so we’re going to back off a little here before Christmas and hopefully be charged up again when we get back going in January.”

The Greyhounds were to send their junior varsity wrestlers only to a match at Baldwin on Tuesday, and they cancelled a match at Howard scheduled for Thursday to concentrate on the Hurricane Duels Friday and Saturday in Monticello.

They will finish up their pre-Christmas portion of the schedule at the Fitzgerald Invitational Dec. 20-21 and not participate in the Fayetteville Christmas Classic on Dec. 28 so they will be rested for the Area Duels Jan. 3-4.
