Martin Thrasher pled guilty to a lesser charge of false imprisonment in Jones County Superior Court Dec. 5. He was sentenced to 10 years and given two years to serve in prison. Thrasher received credit from the day he was arrested, which was Dec. 27, 2011.
He was tried in Jones County Superior Court in August of 2012 for the charge of aggravated sodomy. The jury ultimately acquitted him of the charge of aggravated sodomy but found him guilty of sodomy. Thrasher was sentenced to 20 years on the charge and given 12 years to serve by Chief Superior Court Judge William Prior.
Assistant District Attorney Dawn Baskin explained to the court that Thrasher filed a motion for a new trial in September that was denied. But, when she got the case, she was concerned the verdict would be reversed on appeal.
