Members of the Development Authority of Jones County listened to a site assessment by an independent expert at their last meeting and heard a lot of good news as well as some not-so-good news.

Jim Ewing with International Site Advisors LLC presented a site assessment for Griswoldville Park at the Authority’s Jan. 14 meeting. Ewing said he was contacted in November by Authority member T.J. Heath and then went to the site to evaluate it.

Ewing said he was already familiar with the property and actually came to look at it soon after the county purchased it. He performed a detailed inspection this past December.

Ewing started with the pros of the site, beginning with its size. He said the acreage is a huge advantage, and it is a plus that the property is already community owned. The evaluator said the adjacent railroad is a tremendous advantage, and it has water and natural gas on-site.

Ewing said the four-lane roadway leading to the park is good, and it has an attractive landscaped entrance. He added that having a fire station on the site is good, and the interstate is reasonably close.

“The industrial park is close to Macon, and you have good information available about the site. Your leadership is informed, and the fact that you bought the land is good for your community. That shows a lot of stability and that your leaders have had good vision over the years,” he said.
