So much for it being time for spring sports.

The ice storm last week wiped out two tennis matches and two soccer dates for the Jones County varsity teams, plus the varsity baseball team’s preseason game and the opener for the Clifton Ridge Middle School baseball team.

The tennis matches have been rescheduled for later in the season – March 10 at Mary Persons and March 17 at home against Warner Robins.

Boys’ soccer coach Duane Kitchens said he is still working to reschedule the non-region matches against Monticello and Putnam County that the Greyhounds and Lady Hounds were supposed to open the season with last week. The home opener now will be next Tuesday against Putnam County, at 5:30 p.m. for the girls and 7:30 for the boys.

But other than last week’s ice storm and the snow from a couple of weeks earlier, the weather has actually been a little better than usual in preparing for the spring seasons, said baseball coach Barry Veal.
