Emergency Management Director Don Graham told the board members at the Feb. 11 meeting about his meeting and conference call with the National Weather Service. The board immediately had a discussion and closed all county government officers Feb. 12-13.
Tiffany Davis was the first on the agenda and said the law changed dealing with inert landfills. She said the landfill behind the Overland Way Convenience Center was affected and the county has been working to comply with the law.
Davis said the county is giving away free mulch because it is required to mulch all of the sticks and limbs out there. She said the county is also required to put up a no smoking sign because the convenience center is basically standing on top of a methane producer.
Commissioner Tommy Robinson said he believed that was a good reason not to allow smoking, and all the commissioners agreed that Overland Way Convenience Center should be smoke free.
