The finish wasn’t as good as they wanted, but considering they were facing higher seeded opponents in the first round, it was close to what could be expected for Jones County’s two representatives in the state individual wrestling meet last Friday and Saturday.

Senior Tim Randolph, who placed third last year in the 106-pound division, this year had to settle for a tie for seventh in the 120-pound division.

Sophomore Torrez Finney placed sixth in the 170-pound division in his first trip to state.

The meet was postponed a week by the recent ice storm and split into five different locations because the Gwinnett Center, where it was originally scheduled, was unavailable.

The Greyhounds competed in the Class AAAAA tournament at Loganville High School.

Both Randolph and Finney lost their opening matches on Friday.

Randolph, who was a sixth seed after the state east sectional, faced third seed Cody Anderson of Allatoona and was pinned.
