Francisco Javier Angel Garcia was sentenced March 6 in Jones County Superior Court to 30 years for the offense of trafficking methamphetamine or amphetamine with the first 10 years to be served in confinement. Upon service of 10 years, the remainder of sentence may be served on probation.
The charge of possession of a firearm for Garcia was dismissed.
The trafficking charge against Domingo Cobo Depaz was dismissed and he was sentenced to five years for the offense of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony with the first 450 days to be served in confinement and the remainder to be served on probation. Depaz will receive credit for time served in custody since his arrest Nov. 20, 2012.
An interpreter was used in the sentencing because neither of the men spoke or understood English well.
Superior Court Judge James Cline presided over the courtroom and accepted the pleas. He asked each, before accepting their pleas, if they were U.S. citizens and their attorneys said no. Cline then asked if the defendants understood the ramifications of their guilty pleas.
