A lower-level defendant in the Jones County Sheriff’s Department’s most recent Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations case pled guilty in Superior Court last week.

Candice Marie Kennedy was sentenced April 10 to 10 years for one RICO count. The second count was dismissed as part of a plea negotiation with the state.

The first 180 days are to be served in confinement and the remainder on probation.

Assistant District Attorney Dawn Baskin told the court that the crimes were committed between Aug. 1, 2013, and Oct. 22, 2013.

“She is considered on the lower level of the criminal enterprise. She was more than a casual user but less than a dealer,” the prosecutor said.

Baskin said part of the defendant’s plea agreement is she will testify to all matters related to the RICO case.
