The Lady Hounds are continuing their voluntary batting practice sessions this week, but the intensity turns up with the opening of tryouts and official practice on Friday.

Varsity and junior varsity tryouts will be held Friday (7:15-9 p.m.) and Saturday (9-11 a.m. and 6-8 p.m.). Varsity and junior varsity rosters will be announced following Saturday evening’s tryout.

“The batting practice has been going well,” coach Blake Lyons said. “We’ve had a lot of girls away playing for their travel ball teams – Florida, California, all over, really. But that’s OK. For the most part they are facing good competition, so that should only help them get ready for the season.”

Regular practice will get going on Monday afternoon. Jones County has a preseason scrimmage at Veterans on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
