Mr. Stewart was born on Aug. 19, 1920, was a 1937 graduate of Jones County High School, and was a 1942 graduate of Georgia Tech, Atlanta. He was a U.S. Army officer during World War II, with service in New Guinea and the Philippines.
Mr. Stewart retired from Marshall Space Flight Center, NASA in 1980. His responsibilities included project manager, F-1 rocket engine, which boosted the Saturn-Apollo on the historic manned lunar exploration missions.
Mr. Stewart was an avid fisherman and co-authored a book titled “Fishing Reels of Kentucky.”
Survivors include his wife, Jane H. Stewart; son, Frank M. Stewart IV and wife, Naomi; and daughter, Cynthia E. Stewart Johnson and husband, Arthur.
