Jones County’s Housing Committee had a brief meeting last month to update its members about progress with its goal of bringing affordable housing to Gray and Jones County.

Chairman Donald Black told the members that he is hopeful that the apartment complex for senior adults ages 55 and over would be funded but no official word is expected until November.

The project was proposed by the Miller-Valentine Group and would be located on property near the existing Senior Center. It would be funded by federal tax credits.

Black said the senior complex is exciting, and he hopes the next project would be for young adults and families starting out.

The chairman said committee members should find out in September if two Community Development Block Grants, one for the housing improvements in the City of Gray and the other for a community center in Haddock, would be funded.

Joy Carr, with Jones County Family Connection, said she and Vicki Bilderback, with Keep Jones Beautiful, are working together on a grant for a community garden that would be located at the Senior Center.
